telecommunications.
He also brings expertise in information systems, strategic
planning, and market research. He is coauthor of Index It Right!: Advice from the
Experts (vol. 1).

Professional indexer
Fred
Brown
became interested
in indexing through a workshop offered by the local chapter of the
Society
for Technical Communication (STC) on "Indexing Technical Documents." He
was struck by how challenging it is to write an effective
index.
Fred then
completed the
"Basic Indexing"
course from the USDA Graduate School in Washington, DC. This course is
considered the standard for anyone entering the indexing profession.
He has

Fred
Brown started Allegro
Technical Indexing in April, 2000 after doing contract work
in
technical
communications since 1992. Over this period, he developed a specialty
in indexing and information access strategies for
technical documentation. Allegro also designs
web indexes, site maps, taxonomies, metadata and topic maps.
As a speaker and trainer, Fred
sees the opportunity to share his
expertise with
organizations around the globe.
